Natura Viva is a nod to the traditional pictorial genre of the natura morta. It is a linocut project where linoleum is replaced by fruit and vegetable peelings.
In Natura Viva, fruit and vegetables cease to be objects of representataion, and become representing subjects. Their shapes, textures and essential oils manifest themselves in abstract forms.
Working with these materials, I position myself as a facilitator. My role is to help the fruit manifest itself in an abstract form, rather than manipulating it to produce a result I have already set. It is a very intuitive and improvisational process.
